Men’s health – back pain & more

This Movember, we’re looking at men’s health. The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) recently released research* which found that over half of men in the UK (51%) have avoided consulting their GP for issues related to back and joint pain. The research also found that almost half (48%) of men believed the issue would resolve itself.

Men’s back pain stats

This figure is notably lower than that for women, as only a third (33%) have refrained from seeing their GP, and just over a quarter (27%) believed their condition would improve on its own.

The study also found that:

  • 18% of British men have stopped work due to their bone and joint pain
  • Almost two thirds (64%) of British men use exercise as a way to manage bone and joint pain
  • 62% of British men are considering turning to private healthcare to treat their bone and joint pain

Time to take action

The research highlights a concerning trend when it comes to men’s health: that many British men are disregarding their bone and joint pain. We want this pattern to change and to encourage men to take control of any issues they might be facing when it comes to their back and joint health, especially as treating these issues early can help manage and resolve the pain.

Men’s health – back pain and more…

However, it’s worth remembering this Movember that it’s not just back and joint pain issues that many men avoid seeking guidance or help with. Work also needs to be done to encourage men in Bristol and beyond to seek help and support for any wider health issues they have concerns about too. So whether mental or physical, we’re asking men to please seek help from a GP or healthcare professional with any health issues they may be facing.
